A Legacy of Faith- The Dedication

                                     A Legacy of Faith

                                    The Dedication

Today was the dedication of Tyler Rosemary, my 5-month-old granddaughter. She not only carries the name of her uncle (my son) who passed away 22 year ago but the middle name of my mother.

As my daughter, Sierra and her husband Steele stood in front of the church this morning, I couldn’t help but recognize four generations in the Lord’s house. They stood publicly with their daughter surrounded by lots of family on both sides and made a commitment to raise her to know the Lord.

They promised God.

I couldn’t help but remember 23 years ago, my husband and I stood in front of the church and made the same commitment.

This is powerful!

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

While I have had a strong prayer life and tremendous faith over my children, I can’t help but acknowledge that we are living in the prayers of yesterday.

Prayers prayed by my mother, my grandmother and my great grandmother. All believers!

The bible refers to this “Generational Faith” in the book of Timothy.

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (II Timothy 2:5)

With this scripture, the Bible gives us a glimpse of what helped make Timothy a Godly man.

Today’s baby dedication was an honor to the generations before us and our prayers today will honor future generations.

My favorite part of the pastor’s prayer over Tyler today. “Lord, give her a faith that makes her parents nervous, because she so loves you and is so chasing after you in all things.”

As the pastor was speaking over Little Miss Tyler today, I can’t help but believe this generational faith will live on through her. This is it!  The greatest legacy of all, the only one that really matters.

Let’s always remember the power of prayer and pray over our children. Future generations are depending on us.

4 Generations in the House!
